Ambition

Ambition is the desire for personal achievement. It provides the motivation and determination necessary to help give direction to life. Ambitious people seek to be the best at what they choose to do for attainment, power, or superiority. Ambition can also be defined as the object of this desire. It is an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment

Every man is said to have his peculiar ambition. Whether it be true or not, I can say for one that I have no other so great as that of being truly esteemed of my fellow men, by rendering myself worthy of their esteem.

Acquired power can be wielded in the name of a vague or clear ideal or multiple ideals. When ambition is used to seek a clear ideal, it develops a close relationship to extremism. Throughout human history, many examples can be found of people who were extremely ambitious, for better and for worse. The notorious Greek Herostratus had the ambition to become famous by destroying the Temple of Artemis.

Driving Force of Life:

Some ambition is essential for everyone to live well in life. Without ambition life will be boring, monotonous and uninteresting in the world. So, ambition is a necessity for survival, sustenance and success in the life of the world. May be ambition drives some mad, but it helps some to achieve success in their goals or rather ambition helps one achieve perfection in life. Therefore what kind of ambition is necessary is the thing one has to see depending upon one’s heredity and environment or nature and nurture to do best and beautiful things in the world rather than make it hell for everyone to live.

Ambition is the driving force in life, despite no facility, no help and no aid to make great achievements possible in the world. Here living is not enough; something has to be achieved to make one’s life interesting or make interesting things, worthy things, best things and noble things known to the world. Then only the feeling that life will not be worth living in the world today full of violence, wars and terrorism or the materialistic world, where there is no room for human values, does not arise.

The Role of Ambition in Life:

Ambition is the product of MIND. It plays a vital role in building one’s character, either by helping him to reach the peaks of success or leads him to his downfall, without being aware of it. Ambition is the outcome of the multiplication of one’s desires. It is something imaginary and is concerned with his future. Ambition is something what we dream of, to achieve in future, a period which is yet to come. It sets a goal to be reached or a target to be achieved at. It is a relative term and is concerned which has deeply been concerned in relation to the present prevailing conditions. What a man is ‘today’; and what he wants to be ‘tomorrow’, is in fact the ‘ambition’. This is the journey of desires which starts from “today” and aims at to reach to “to-morrow”. The question then arises as to how far one has to go, how fast one has to go, with all the resources and means available to him. It is the “desire” which turns into “ambition”, compelling a man to be in action. But every act must have intrinsic value, and one should not bother for results. The moment one bothers for results of his actions, it becomes the “means” and the “end” goes in “future”. In practice, the means themselves should be the end, the path itself the goal, the action must be the duty to bring every moment the “ultimate” one. This would bring oneself nearer to the fulfillment to his ambitions, and restrict him to be “over-ambitious”. To be ambitious is good, but to be over-ambitious may be proved harmful. The difference between the “ambitious” and “over-ambitious” is, that of the distance, between the present circumstances prevailing at the start of this journey, and the goal to be achieved at, or the destination where this journey would end. History has witnessed the downfall of many of those who were over-ambitious like Napoleon and Hitler. Hence, to be ambitious is a MUST for the prosperity in life while to be over-ambitious is a senseless risk.

Should We Die To Achieve Happiness Or Find The Purpose Of Our Life?

People have dreams in their lives. Many aspire to be rich or to become business tycoons. Some persons dream of becoming leaders, politicians and social reformers. Some aspire to become the leading hooligans and anti-social elements of their localities or cities and this is a bad aspiration. There are others who have a craze for becoming poets, writers and novelists while most of us generally have a desire of becoming engineers, doctors and scientists of great repute. There are very few persons who are happy-go-lucky by nature and have no clear-cut aims in their lives.

Choices everyone has to make them all that differentiates one from another is to what extent it will impact your life and what direction it will lead you in. Up till now the choices I have made have been geared towards higher education and perusing what I enjoy doing.

I do not have very ambitious aims in my life. I do not wish to become a mill-owner or a multi-millionaire. The some object of my life is to lead a life of simplicity and goodness devoted to the service of humanity. The life of a professional leader or a politician would not suit me as most of such persons have become parasites on the society.

I was born of middle-class parents. From the very beginning, I have been passing through the struggles of life. I have seen cut-throat competition in most of the professions. Its consequences have been far-reaching; people are demoralised. Examples can be quoted in which, we can find the engineers accepting big bribes, lawyers rescuing guilty persons or murderers ami doctors demanding money from the patients at the operation.

Ambition in other words is the motive force needed to propel all of us to work towards our set cherished goals. It is the dynamic inner force that has led people from all walks of life to cleave to a new path, set a Ambition can both make a person achieve things wonderful and beyond one’s natural abilities, and also have the power to corrupt and completely alter one’s sense of reality and morality.

The motto of this life, ‘simple living and high thinking’ inspires me to take up a profession of police officer. I know that a police is lotted to be poor. He leads a life of drudgery, busy in correcting others or answer to the culprits in the society in the right manner so as to bring a change in their lives. There are no stirring event in his life.

Inspite of these hardships I would like to become a police officer especially an IPS. I have reasons and considerations for adopting this profession. Since my early childhood, I have the days of developed affection for the poor. In my view, they are delicate and beautiful like the petals of a flower who work hard to earn for their food and living. They are very narrow minded and don't have any idea of deception. Hence I would like to help those poor who get deceived by culprits. I would like to control the crime rate and help the people in the society. After all service to mankind is the service to GOD.
